“Va-LOGGING”

The Benevolent Universe, The Story of Your Unique Genius is finished. 1 million-plus words written, 8 rewrites, 6 editors, and 13 years of my life. This book is my third child—as much heart and soul as one can put into something non-human. I feel much the same way as I did right before the birth of my two daughters as well. It also feels like I am 13 years pregnant and ready for this baby to come out. I was hoping to have an Amazon launch date this week, but the best I can tell you is, “Soon.” Lots of…

Random Thoughts About My Hair

Post alert. If you’re having a tough day, this maybe too hard to read especially if you don’t read to the end (the inspiring part). I hope it gets better, by the way. Don’t worry, I’ll be back next week with news about the book!! Yes, I said book. For a long time now, I’ve been mad at my hair. It started at fortyish. I told myself all the things everyone else says. It’s too thin. It’s hormones. Having the kids ruined it. Need more Biotin. Using the wrong shampoo. My water is too hard…. And on and on and…

Did You Hear That?

DID YOU HEAR THAT?  Yep. It was definitely the universal end-of-August exhale—the one that happens right after the first bell has rung, the pledge has been said, and we’ve placed our orders at the Starbucks drive-through window. Whew! As a parent of near-adult people, I feel it’s my civic duty to pass on some stuff not to do with your kids, from my infamous “whatever-you-do-don’t-do-that” list. Maybe it will help you—or you can skip this, and enjoy your Starbucks. Cheers, by the way. You’ve earned it! I was in the process of assembling a list of the top ten things…

Day 210

Day 210. Lots to report. My book finally came back edited. My editor informed me that my “guide to the universe” was like 5 books in one. I said, “You’re welcome.” He said, “No.” And some other stuff like “Your grammar is that of a fifth grader” and, basically, “Get busy with some major rewriting, Dana.” So here I am, blogging all day and writing all night. With any luck, Benevolent Universe may be in print by fall. I can use your prayers, people. In other news, I have found a new gym routine and have unleashed an inner beast. Above is one…

29 Years Today!

This was my husband (boyfriend at the time) and me 30 summers ago. I call it the “Big Hair, Small Waistline” era. Time has played a cruel joke, as these are now exactly opposite. Somewhere along the way, I discovered that relationships are the biggest gifts we get and the hardest pieces to manage because they are reflections of our own happiness and authenticity. I am very lucky because of the person who has shown up many days and helped me find a way to really love myself and be proud of myself (despite of myself). I think this is what…

#DRAT

If you’re old enough to know what drat means, then you already know what kind of week I’ve had. If you don’t know, drat feels like substantial annoyance combined with the need to eat something not “Oz approved” to cope with it. If I’m being honest, it went way beyond “drat.” I was going to post a picture of some waffles to help us all cheer up about the fact that there will be no grand wisdom from the blog this week, but, alas they were charging money for all the really good ones. And forget about waffles with creme fraiche. Then I thought kittens or…

HAPPY MONDAY and “Git ‘er Done”

So I signed my first autograph this week. Dave said it was the cashier needing me to sign my receipt. I don’t recall that. I’m fairly certain she’s seen my blog. I’m nearly a celebrity. I’m happy to report over 1000 views thanks to everyone! We are having some minor website issues, so thank you for your patience! I remind myself on this Columbus Day 2015, that Columbus landed in America thinking he was in India. Maybe this is not such a terrible thing. I will remove illusions of instant perfection, and in the words of Larry the Cable Guy, “git ‘er done.” I will…
