Spiritual Practice For Anxious People

You don’t need more time.
You don’t need to be “less anxious.”
You only need a willingness to begin.

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety is the awareness that our usual plans and narratives are not working, and we find ourselves suffering and afraid.

Because we are inherently wise, we would like to know why.

We often ask others for advice instead of seeking our own wisdom. We find ourselves reaching for extra food, pain medications, and quick fixes.

We can spend most of our lives seeking solutions to life’s issues instead of seeking the essential wisdom we need to discern a beautiful, compassionate solution.

Suffering is the Path to Wisdom

When we’re sick or upset, we want to know why–this is the inherent nature and capacity we forget we can tap into.

The average 4-year-old asks “why” 50 times a day. The average adult forgets there are reasons “why” for everything.

There is a beautiful and perfect “why” for everything.

This “why” is compassionate, joyful, and wise.

This “why” feels elegant and holy.

This “why” is the wisdom we need to understand how to progress on our daily path in a more beautiful and profound way.

Philosophers call it our Essential Wisdom, Buddhists call it Wisdom of Perfect Understanding.

Most call it truth.

Mainly, it’s a wisdom we will trust when we touch it within ourselves.

Hi, I'm Dana Drake

I’m a spiritual practitioner, writer, and blogger.

For nearly 30 years, I’ve been practicing and studying spiritual traditions, philosophy, and the subtle ways our inner world speaks to us.

I’m a chemist by training and a lifelong student of wisdom.

I’m also a mom, a wife, a friend, and a human who has been in the very same anxious places you’ve been.

The work of my lifetime is about teaching the spiritual practice of working through anxiety and existential fear–I call it Tuesday at my house:)

Please click here to check out Tuesday’s At My House blog.

I teach the spiritual practice of dealing with massive fear and anxiety as you move through everyday life.

My Mission

I am dedicated to helping you navigate the complexities of anxiety and the weight of suffering with grace and clarity. My mission is to provide the tools and support necessary for you to move from a state of overwhelm into a life of purpose, presence, and profound inner calm.

Anxiety is a spiritual crisis. We are lost to our own essential wisdom, and we don’t know why.

The very nature of anxiety requires us to slow down as the feelings break through our plans for today.

Anxiety begs the question, “Why am I afraid?

“How did I arrive in these conditions today?”

“And how can I trust myself to move forward?”

The mission of my life’s work is to teach people how to work with massive anxiety, fear, and existential uncertainty because it’s challenging to feel anxious alone and know we can understand why and experience true transformation.

I began doing this work long ago when my life fell apart.

When we feel lost, our tendency is to take the advice of well-meaning others because we don’t trust ourselves in these moments.

We forget we’re only lost to our own wisdom in these moments–and we forget these moments are temporary.

We don’t need another plan at this moment; we need a better way of caring for ourselves and working with the existential storm that anxiety can trigger.

I had someone teach me, and over time and practice in my own environment, my spiritual practice has transformed all aspects of my life.

Maybe I can support you now.

If you need support, don’t hesitate to email me.

Over the many years of working with anxious people, I’ve learned one thing to be true–we can become victims of our own lives, held hostage by anxiety simply because we don’t know how to care for ourselves when we have it.

We can develop unhealthy habits of coping when anxiety is not addressed as it happens.

We can make a lot of messes here, erode our relationships, and become quite desperate.

At some point, we quit progressing on the path to joy, meaning, happiness, because we don’t know how to work with anxiety.

In these moments, we could learn to find our wisdom again–it’s always available:)

We are designed to understand ourselves.

Mindfulness, or spiritual practice, is the art of understanding ourselves as we move through our everyday lives.

Some call spiritual practice the Path of Compassion, because it is the art of developing the innate ability to care for ourselves unconditionally, no matter what we discover within ourselves.

Every day, I speak with people who want to learn about spiritual practice but “don’t have time.”

This may be the biggest misunderstanding of all.

You don’t need more time. You don’t need to go to the top of a mountain to understand yourself.

We are each designed to understand ourselves as we move through life–and it’s in our best interest to do so.

We are always practicing to understand ourselves and care for ourselves.

We don’t need a cure for the experience of life; we need a better practice of caring for ourselves and understanding ourselves as we experience it.

My Approach to Teaching

I teach you how to practice in the middle of your real life:

In the kitchen.

In the car.

During the moments when your chest tightens, or your thoughts start racing.

In the places where anxiety actually happens, there is the wisdom to know why as well.

Each moment of your life is the perfect teacher, and we learn to embrace each one.

My approach is simple, grounded, and deeply Compassionate.
